Flag Raising
On Sunday, May 14 at 1pm ODBC will celebrate its 137th anniversary with the annual Flag Raising ceremony. The United States Coast Guard Color Guard will present and raise the American flag while ODBC member Keith Harmon leads the membership and guests in singing the National Anthem. Patriotic songs will be performed by the Alexandria Harmonizers and City of Alexandria Mayor Allison Silberberg will raise the City Flag. ODBC President Richard Banchoff traditionally raises the Club burgee and another selected public official raises the flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Because we no longer have a flagpole in King Street Park, (it was knocked over by high winds several weeks ago) the ceremony will be held inside the Club Grounds, on the Tiki Deck and the docks. We will be raising the flags on the masts of three sailboats, one of which is a two-masted yawl while the others are single-masted sloops.
Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
